Laser Welding Safety

  • What should I consider regarding safety?

While the ideal scenario for operating the MA1 series is in a separate room, necessary safety can also be achieved with the use of laser safety curtains. Appropriate laser safety glasses are needed to protect the operator’s eyes during the welding process. We also recommend the use of gloves, long sleeves, and appropriate work boots for additional protection. In some countries, including Germany, a designated laser safety officer is required within the company to ensure all safety protocols are being followed.

It’s important to note that safety regulations can vary by region. Our solution expert partners are well-versed in local safety requirements and are more than happy to guide you through the safety protocols applicable in your specific region, ensuring your operations are both safe and compliant.

  • How does the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System ensure user safety during operation?

The MA1 series is engineered with a range of safety features to prioritize user safety during operation. It incorporates a double-secured contact sensor that permits operation only when the trigger is in hand contact and in contact with the workpiece. For immediate system shutdown in case of safety concerns, it is equipped with an emergency off button. The system can also be connected to a door switch interlock circuits that can be linked to the welding room doors, ensuring the device safely shuts down if someone enters during operation. To prevent unauthorized or accidental operation, the MA1 series is fitted with a safety key lock, further enhancing its operational safety.

  • What certifications does the MA1 series hold?

The MA1 series holds several certifications including EN 60204-1, EN 60825-1, ISO 11553-2, ISO 12100, EN IEC 61000-6-2, and EN IEC 61000-6-4.

Welding with the MA1 Series

  • What materials can the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System weld?

The MA1 series can weld a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and other alloys. For detailed information on materials and supported welding depths, please download our product brochure.

  • Can a thin sheet be welded to a thick sheet?

Yes, it is possible! This is particularly feasible for cladding sheets or carriers.

  • What kind of wire can be used with the wire feeder?

Standard filler materials from 0.8 – 1.6mm for the respective materials (stainless steel, aluminum, construction steel) can be used.

  • Can the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System be used for mobile welding projects?

Yes, the MA1 series is designed to be lightweight and portable, making it suitable for mobile welding projects. The MA-35 requires a 220Vac power supply with 16A, and the MA1-45 and MA1-65 models require 220Vac with 32A. However, it’s important to note that necessary safety precautions must be met to ensure safe operations on construction sites and building locations. This includes proper setup, use of safety gear, and adherence to safety regulations specific to the location.

  • What training is required to operate the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System?

The MA1 series is designed to be simple to learn and operate. Even a novice can master the welding operation with just less than 1 hour of training. Additionally, our solution partners provide hands-on training in system operation, welding, and safety to ensure users are fully equipped to use the MA1 series effectively and safely.

  • What maintenance is required for the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System?

The MA1 series requires low maintenance, thanks to its air-cooled design which eliminates the need for frequent upkeep and reduces downtime.

  • How does the MA1 Handheld Laser Welding System contribute to reducing production costs?

The MA1 series helps reduce production costs by improving welding speed and efficiency, reducing training time, and requiring less maintenance.
